Disney is a tough company for me to love and hate as far as movies go. I am not a big fan of the dozen or so CGI movies that they have produced over the last decade. I personally prefer the hand drawn cartoon movies. However, ever since Pirates of the Caribbean became a success they seem to be trying to find that next big thing. The
trailer looks fun and fast, more eye candy than anything... but this seems to me like Harry Potter on steroids.
I guess my question is - are movies with 3D and flash more popular now than movies with a good story? The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was great, the other two seemed to flashy to me with to much CGI. A movie like National Treasure, I enjoyed the story more.
I could name a dozen movies that seem to have a good first movie with a good story but then the sequels end up flopping because they tried to double even sometimes triple the special effects. Just a quick run through of the ones I noticed, The Matrix, The Original Star Wars Trilogy, Indiana Jones, I would even go as far as to say Transformers. I think the new Batman movies got it right but I can't think of many others that have stayed the same in terms of effects.
